We can customize your trip to include a wide range of activities, excursions and unique experiences: you could spend a few days in a farmhouse inside the Majella National Park in the mountains, and a few days in a hotel or villa by the beach, or in a hilltop village. What about a magical hike on the highest points of the Apennines overlooking the Adriatic Sea, or tasting Montepulciano d’Abruzzo wine in a winery, while children enjoy a swimming pool surrounded by the vineyards?
ITINERARY
This is an itinerary designed just to give you some ideas and we’ll be more than happy to customize the trip of your dreams according to your interests (i.e. to visit also Puglia), needs (i.e. to discover your ancestors’ villages) and to the season.
Day 1 | Airport pick up and welcome dinner in Rome

- Rome Fiumicino Airport pick up (or other airport) and private transfer to hotel in downtown Rome
- Check in at your hotel in Rome, located at walking distance from Rome highlights and at the heart of one of the most lively districts
- Afternoon at your own leisure to recover from flight and jet-lag
- Meet your guide, learn more about your trip and end the day with our welcome dinner in a traditional restaurant in Rome
Day 2 | Old Rome guided walking tour and free afternoon
After a leisurely traditional breakfast of freshly baked bread, whole fruit country-style preserves, cake, pastries, coffee, tea and freshly squeezed juice

Day 3 | Welcome to Abruzzo: visit to a 12th Century hermitage, Scanno and Abruzzo National Parks

- After check out, we’ll drive across the wonderful Abruzzo mountains and National Parks to the a farmhouse inside the Majella Mountains National Park, where you will be staying for the next 2 nights
- On the way to the farmhouse , we’ll visit the enchanting Hermitage of San Domenico in Villalago and the village of Scanno (one of the most beautiful villages of Italy) on the mountains
PM
- Lunch in a traditional restaurant in Scanno
- Transfer to the farmhouse, check in and free time to enjoy the beautiful surrounding mountain
- Before dinner, there is the possibility to have a self-guided walking tour in the Majella National park or to explore the area by bikes
Day 4 | Walking in the Majella National Park and homemade pizza cooking class

- Guided easy walking tour inside the Majella National Park (around 10 Km, 6,2 miles, 222 m difference in height, 228 m altitude downhill, walking time 4 hours plus breaks) discover solitary and remote hermitages set in the rocky mountainside and admire unique landscapes. We’ll enjoy a traditional and light picnic with panini and fruit

- Free time to relax in the farmhouse
- Homemade Pizza-Cooking Class using an old stone oven and dinner at the farmhouse
Day 5 | Rafting, the town of pasta and Vasto Marina beach

- After check out, we’ll drive to the ancient Roman town of Vasto on the Adriatic Coast, where you will be staying for the next 5 nights
- On the way to Vasto we’ll have a rafting experience on the Aventino River for all the family

- Lunch tasting different kinds of pasta in a traditional restaurant in Fara San Martino, the town of Pasta
- Check in at your Hotel on Vasto Marina beach
- Free time to enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy
- Dinner at your own leisure
Day 6 | Cycling at Punta Aderci Marine Park, wine-tasting and free time

- After breakfast we’ll spend the morning at the glorious Punta Aderci Marine Park, Abruzzo’s most scenic coastline as well as it being its highest point. We’ll explore the area by bicycle
- Next we’ll visit an award-winning winery nestled between a marine park and the mountains. We’ll have a wine-tasting paired with local cheeses and salami, and a tour of the vineyard and cellars by the winemakers/owners Emanuele and Nicola

- After and during the light lunch in the winery, you can use their swimming pool
- Free time
- Dinner at your own leisure
Day 7 | Roccascalegna Medieval Castle, special lunch on a trabocco fishing house and exploring Vasto

- We’ll explore this enchanting castle in Roccascalegna and learn about the history of medieval castles in Italy
- Next we’ll discover the landmark symbols of the area, the trabocchi
- Rinaldo, our host, will show us how to fish from it and learn the secrets and history behind Abruzzo’s unique fishing platforms

- Special fish lunch on a trabocco
- Next we’ll explore Vasto’s historic centre: Loggia Amblingh, a promenade overlooking the fascinating crescent-shaped coastline, the old town with its medieval Castle, charming lanes, a tower, the Cathedral and Piazza Rossetti, dedicated to Gabriele Rossetti, a poet from the town and father of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, who founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood
- Dinner at your own leisure
Day 8 | Farmhouse experience: learning to make ricotta cheese, homemade pasta and a special bread and free afternoon

- We’ll make our way to the farm where Pina and Dino will reveal the secrets of sheep farming to us and guide those that would like to learn how to milk a cow to make ricotta cheese
- After a snack of cheeses and salami, we’ll learn how to prepare ricotta cheese in their creamery, how they make flour with their mill, and how to make homemade pasta and a special local bread. We’ll also pick our vegetables and eggs for our “zero km” lunch

Day 9 | Free morning, art experience and farewell dinner

- Free morning at your leisure for last minute shopping or for the last swim in the Adriatic Sea

- We’ll drive to the little hilltop village of Lentella at Ettore’s “Fattoria d’Arte” (Art farm)
- Surrounded by an amazing landscape with sea, mountains, hills, small towns and sea views, we’ll have an artistic experience with Ettore where you may create your personal postcards, or a little sculpture, and you can admire his tree house
- In the evening, we’ll have an aperitif and farewell dinner with Ettore. If we’re lucky we could help Ettore’s wife make risotto with truffle that grow in Ettore’s land
Day 10 | Departure and goodbye
After breakfast departure for Rome Fiumicino airport or your next destination

Italia Sweet Italia (ISI) is a small incoming tour operator specialised in organizing vacations around Abruzzo Italy, our home. ISI is a fully licensed company covered by insurance policy no. 402485101 by Axa Assicurazione S.p.A. and authorised by the local government to create and sell tour packages from 2011.
Our mission is to show people from all over the world the beauty of Abruzzo and other Italian regions so they can experience our homeland, traditions, arts and folklore in a unique way, also demonstrating the benefits of sustainable tourism to everyone. In order to help you discover everything Abruzzo has to offer, we organise small groups (up to 12 people) escorted tours including cultural, culinary, active, pottery, Italian language and ancestry experiences.
