An Authentic Odyssey curated by Fabrizio Lucci & Robert Campana

Close your eyes and imagine an Italy that still belongs to the poets.

This journey is not a standard itinerary; it is a labor of love designed by two experts who call these lands home. Fabrizio Lucci, founder of Italia Sweet Italia, was born and raised in the coastal beauty of Vasto, our base for the second half of the tour. Robert Campana, the visionary behind Stop Italian Sounding, traces his roots back to Colli al Volturno, the very heart of Molise where our adventure begins.

Fabrizio and Robert share a profound mission: to protect and promote the “Minor Italy”—that authentic, untamed soul of the country found far beyond the crowded tourist traps. Together, they have designed an immersive experience that celebrates the “modern heroes”—the small-scale producers, artisans, and farmers who keep Italy’s true culinary and cultural heritage alive.

The Journey

Your odyssey begins in the Highlands of Molise, Italy’s best-kept secret. In the “Athens of the Sannio,” the air is crisp, and the silence of rolling hills tells stories of ancient Samnite warriors. Here, time follows the rhythm of the artisan’s hammer and the shepherd’s path.

As we descend from the mountains, our path flows toward the Abruzzi coast, reaching the vibrant “Athens of the Abruzzi”: Vasto. Suspended between 15th-century hanging gardens and the sparkling Mediterranean, Vasto welcomes you with the energy of a coastal city that has never lost its refined, artistic soul.

The Philosophy

This is more than a tour; it is a balanced discovery of Italy’s “Green Heart”—a delicate dance between the quiet intimacy of ancient stone villages and the sun-drenched, musical nights of the Adriatic shore. For ten days, you won’t just be a tourist; you will be a guest in our home.

You will join Robert in discovering the truth behind authentic Italian flavors, learning to distinguish the genuine from the Italian “sounding.” You will walk with Fabrizio through the streets of his childhood, meeting the people we call friends and family. You will taste the true essence of a land that remains, beautifully, untamed.

NOTE ABOUT YOUR ITINERARY

Your Itinerary is a guide to your activities during the week. However, sometimes we modify the final itinerary to take advantage of the season and the weather. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has a fabulous time, and that sometimes means tweaking the schedule even after your arrival.

In particular, for our mountain excursions and outdoor picnics, if the weather conditions do not allow for the planned activities, Fabrizio will always consider and substitute them with a “Plan B” of equal value and beauty. Your guide will provide suggestions during the week, and the group will decide if any modifications are desired. Be assured that only enhanced experiences are ever considered.

A NOTE ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY

Your itinerary is a carefully crafted guide, but it is also a “living” document. We pride ourselves on our agility and deep local roots. Unlike large, rigid corporations, we work exclusively with small, family-run businesses and independent artisans. This means that if a local producer faces an unexpected health issue or a logistical unforeseen event, we don’t just cancel—we adapt.

Because these providers are our friends and neighbors, we can seamlessly coordinate high-quality, authentic alternatives that maintain the “home-away-from-home” feel of your tour. Whether we’re tweaking the schedule to catch a perfect sunset or moving a visit to ensure you meet the best producer available, rest assured that any change is made to enhance your experience and keep it truly authentic.

Suggestions:

  • Sturdy Footwear: Bring comfortable walking shoes for the charming but uneven cobblestones of historic centers and our walks through the countryside.
  • Pack Light for Souvenirs: You will encounter incredible local treasures—from artisanal bells and delicate jewelry to hand-woven textiles and “KM 0” delicacies. Make sure to leave some extra room in your suitcase!

NOTES ON OUR BASES

Agnone:The “Athens of the Sannio”
Agnone (5,000 inhabitants) in July is a breath of fresh air. Known as the “Athens of the Sannio” for its ancient cultural prestige and aristocratic palaces, it offers a cool, elegant atmosphere in the heart of the Molisan highlands. The town’s stone-paved squares become intimate stages for classical concerts and traditional festivals, providing a timeless sanctuary rooted in Italian history. This setting is home to world-class craftsmanship, including the 1,000-year-old Papal Bell Foundry and historic goldsmiths. It serves as a peaceful, high-altitude retreat where you can explore centuries of Samnite and medieval heritage on foot before our daily excursions.

Vasto: The “Athens of the Abruzzi”
Vasto (40,000 inhabitants) in July is vibrant. Long celebrated as the “Athens of the Abruzzi” for its refined literary and artistic soul, its historic center is a stage for daily concerts and events held in the 15th-century Neapolitan Gardens of Palazzo d’Avalos. This coastal city offers a sophisticated Mediterranean energy that contrasts beautifully with the quiet charm of the Molise countryside. Between history and culture, Vasto also features stunning Adriatic beaches, easily reachable within a 10-minute taxi ride from the hotel for anyone wishing to enjoy the golden coast before or after our daily excursions.
