You can also meet old ladies in pinafores who bring their chairs outside their homes and sit in gossipy groups, shelling beans or stringing onions into plaits.
THE TRABOCCHI COAST
A blue sea caresses a 26-miles coast, which is known as the Trabocchi Coast for its collection of centuries old fishing net structures called trabocchi. These wooden platforms extend into the sea, allowing fisherman to safely reach deep waters. Some of them are still managed by generations of fisherman who converted them into restaurants. It is possible to discover the Trabocchi Coast biking along a fascinating cycle path.
THE ANCIENT VASTO, OUR BASE ON THE ADRIATIC SEA
Vasto is a hilltop town overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The old centre is a lovely medieval spot with Roman ruins and beautiful buildings such as the castle and Palazzo d’Avalos. If you keep wandering through the narrow alleyways you will find yourself speechless in front of the view over the gulf, from where you can also spot the charming Tremiti Islands and Gargano promontory in Puglia. Vasto is also well known for the variety of its beaches and the nature reserve of Punta Aderci.
