If there’s one region in Italy that can surprise even the most seasoned traveler, it’s undoubtedly Abruzzo.
And it is here that the renowned actor and culinary storyteller Stanley Tucci stopped in the new episode of Tucci in Italy – Abruzzo Episode, now available on Disney+ and National Geographic, where the episode will be broadcast on June 12th.
As a local tour guide and passionate ambassador of my homeland, I can’t help but feel thrilled to finally see Abruzzo in the international spotlight.
This isn’t just about breathtaking landscapes; it’s about genuine experiences of life, culture, and cuisine that represent the truest soul of Italy, where ancient traditions thrive, untouched landscapes unfold, and every meal tells a story passed down through generations.

A Memorable Stop in Abruzzo with Stanley Tucci
Stanley Tucci’s trip through Abruzzo is a heartfelt tribute to everything that makes this region unique.
From the wild peaks of the Gran Sasso to the vast landscapes of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park; from the Trabocchi Coast to timeless hilltop villages.
Every location visited tells a story of genuine Italian traditions and ancient flavors that still live on today.
In the episode, Tucci experiences the iconic Ristoro Mucciante in Campo Imperatore, a place I know well, where meats and arrosticini (sheep swekers) are grilled in the open air on large iron barbecues, surrounded by a high plain that looks straight out of a Western movie.
He then explores the colorful world of sweets at the Pelino Museum in Sulmona, home of the famous confetti, among the most elegant and symbolic Italian treats.
He savors a truly unique culinary and sensory journey with dinner on one of the ancient trabocchi in Ortona, a charming town on our renowned Costa dei Trabocchi.
Later, he takes part in a cooking class surrounded by the greenwood of Castrovalva, using local ingredients that tell stories of the land.
He discovers our beloved ancient Solina wheat, grown near Tagliacozzo, and visits Senarica, in the heart of the Teramo area.
This small village is known for its chestnuts and its fascinating past as the smallest republic in Italy, once loyal to Venice.
